# App Setup

When you ony want to add Nest Protect devices, the only thing you need to do is to set up the Legacy Nest access [legacy-nest-access](https://martin-verbeek.gitbook.io/homey-google-nest-sdm/english-guide/app-setup/legacy-nest-access "mention")

The set up of the Google Nest SDM requires a couple of tasks to be performed in strict order.

* Install HCS App and Nest SDM App on your Homey
* Create a Google Cloud Project
* Create a Device Access Project
* Authorise and link these two projects by using a Login.
* If you have Nest Protect  and/or want additional capabilities for your devices you also need to get Legacy Nest access arranged.
